Dougie Dire, former star footballer, is terminally ill.
On the physical plane, his journey to death takes him through the real and imagined trials of the Isolation Wing, White Ward, Critical Care and Reconciliation Room, assisted by Nurse Leyla and the incompetent surgeon, Professor Pith. His daughter Dolly is also by his side.
On the temporal plane, he encounters characters from all time zones, including his former coach, Tommy Eliot, his best mate Smithy and his four great grandfathers, as he takes us with him on his search for Billy Abraham, a promising young footballer who disappeared after one year at the club.
He travels through many countries, following the path of the infinity symbol, which first appears to him as the screensaver on a Critical Care monitor, and is the path he must eternally follow in his quest for reconciliation with himself, his family and friends, Aboriginal Australia and the Cosmos.
